Monday Memo (Tuesday Edition) 10/9/18

Mr. Lee has asked us to call your attention to the OPT OUT LINK. Please use it if you
would like to opt out of having children photographed and shown on any school-related platform.

Conferences

I am looking forward to our upcoming conferences. Here is the link if you would like to
double-check your time.

Field Trip Tuesday, October 16

We are excited for our field trip next Tuesday. Thank you so much to everyone who
volunteered to chaperone. Our chaperones will be:
1. Albie Bargoot
2. Zach Blocker
3. Kelley Bradford

Math

The children performed very well on our first unit assessment on Number Combinations.
I will share your child's result at our conference. Place value is our new unit of study.  Please
let me know if you would like to be a Math Station Helper. Check out this link for more
information.

Science

It's getting hot in here! Did you see the thermometer your child made? Ms. Natale taught
all about temperature, and the class made thermometer models. We are also discovering
how the water cycle affects weather, and we did an experiment with ice in a plastic bag.

Willy constructs his thermometer model

Students raise and lower the "mercury" to find the correct temperature.

Reading

Reading Shuffle begins today! Students across the second grade will be meeting in groups
with different teachers twice a week.
Ms. Pond, Mystery Reader
Many thanks to Ms. Pond, our first Mystery Reader! We are very excited for you to come in
and join us. Please check out this link for more information.

Writing

Our Writer's Notebooks have finally arrived, and students did a beautiful job collaging
all of their photos onto the cover. We are excited to dive into our Personal Narrative unit.

Have a great week! Please contact me with any questions or concerns.

Miriam
